rc002 The Amputease
IkEcht - songsoverruins (c) 2008
The .net label Rotten Crab, an offshoot of Dark Winter, has been mentioned here once before, with the release of their first album. I didn't hear from this label for a while, but recently I noticed a second record had been released earlier this year. "Jizo / Silly Boy King" is a rerelease of a limited 1996 cassette of The Amputease, a group that would later become Origami Genitalia, one of the many projects under the Origami Republika umbrella. Rotten Crab describes is as a combination of electro-acoustic improvisation and fluid tonality.
What we get are two times thirty minutes of surprsing and experimental music. Especially the first track Jizo where slow, stretched out walls of guitar are mixed with rattling and clattering of metal, porcelain and other objects, make for a particularly dark soundscape. The second track is clearly more experimental and here one will find lots of rattling, clattering and percussion on bells and pieces of metal. Both tracks were a pleasant surprise, as was the first record on this label. They may not be releasing a lot, but what they release is outstanding.
